Class One travelled to Newcastle to visit the the Hancock Museum. We took part in an animal classifying workshop, sorting animals in to different groups. We looked closely at the skulls of different animals and found out if they were carnivores or herbivores by looking at their teeth. We became habitat explorers and found out facts about animals from around the world and animals from our local area. We even saw the skeleton of a tyrannosaurus rex!!!
Snow Fun!!
Class One took the opportunity to get out and explore the wonderful snowy weather. The children enjoyed building snowmen, igloos and sledging with plastic bags.
Outdoor Learning
Class One love learning outdoors. We put on our outdoor clothes to keep us clean and dry. We go out in all weathers and seasons because it keeps us active and healthy. We solve problems, use our imagination and enjoy exploring our environment.

Christmas Stay and Play
We really enjoyed our Christmas stay and play in class one. Lots of parents came and worked with their children to create Christmas craft masterpieces. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came along and joined in with our Christmas fun.

Visit to Washington Wetlands Trust
We went to Washington Wetlands Trust to explore and learn about ponds. We did some pond dipping and found many amazing creatures hidden in and around the pond. We loved looking at the different sizes and shapes of the creatures and had a competition to see who could find the biggest Great Diving Beetle. We also had time to play in and explore the park.
Spring Term 2017
World Book Day
Goldilocks came to visit us in Class 1 to help us to celebrate World Book Day. She told us about an adventure she had while walking in the woods. We told her that we thought it was a bad choice to break into someone’s house and steal porridge and in future she should ask her mummy if she wanted something to eat. Goldilocks said she was very sorry and she wouldn’t do it again.
Shrove Tuesday
Class One had fun with pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The children read and retold the story of the Enormous Pancake and took part in the sponsored pancake flip. They had great fun making pancakes in the afternoon. They enjoyed mixing the ingredients together and watching Mrs Dobson flip the pancakes in the pan. They tried different toppings on their pancakes and really enjoyed eating them.
RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch
This weekend is the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch. The children have been learning about garden birds in class and can name and describe many of the birds found in our gardens. Some of the children have made their own bird feeders which are now hanging in the school grounds. So far, we have seen great tits, blue tits, chaffinches and even a great spotted woodpecker using them.
Chinese New Year
We have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have made and given our lucky red envelopes, listened to Chinese stories and have tasted Chinese food. We all tried very hard to eat our noodles with chopsticks but it was very tricky!
Autumn Term 2016
Thank you to all of the parents who supported our Christmas stay and play. We had a lovely time drinking hot chocolate and creating beautiful Christmas decorations. We raised approximately £60.00 for the class fund through our Christmas raffle.
Despite the weather getting colder, the children have been excited about exploring and learning outdoors.
We have been exploring Autumn and investigating all of the delicious seasonal treats that can be found during this season. We celebrated harvest time by making some delicious pumpkin soup.

Academic Year 2017/2018
Hello and welcome to Class 2
We are a mixed age class of Year 2 and Year 3 pupils. Our class is full of fun and laughter and we aim to educate your children while making memories which last a lifetime!
Spring Term 2018
Year 2 have been focusing on shape in our maths lessons. We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and exploring their properties. We learnt new vocabulary such as vertices, faces and edges. We made our own 3D shapes using straws and bluetac to help us fully understand the properties of each shape. We worked hard together to problem solve and to encourage us to build resilience.
In our computing sessions we have been practising using the keyboard and becoming familiar with the letters/keys. We learnt that we have to use two hands to type on the keyboard and we played games to support us in this.
Winter Fun
What do you do when the snow falls and covers the ground? You grab your hat, coat and wellies and you have fun! The snow creates lots of learning opportunities for our children. Class 2 will look at seasonal changes across the year. We talked about the temperature (Brrrrr) and the key changes from the Autumn term. The children noticed that there were no leaves on the trees and the key weather changes. We had so much fun building snowmen and throwing snowballs!
Autumn Term
This term we will be learning all about the place that we live and carrying out some local fieldwork. We will be creating maps and investigating the area that we live in as well as looking at the United Kingdom, its capital cities and the seas that surround it. As the festive period approaches, we will be looking at ‘Christmas in the past’, and comparing the decorations, toys and traditions to what we celebrate today. In our English lessons, we will focus on our handwriting and basic writing skills.
Educational Visit
Class 1 and Class 2 visited Beamish Museum so we could experience ‘Christmas in the past’ first hand. During our trip, we were looking at the similarities and differences of how Christmas is celebrated today compared to many years ago. Before we went on our trip, we spoke to our family and friends and asked how they celebrated Christmas in the ‘olden days’. We were very surprised to see that most people only got one gift and this was often a piece of coal!
Whilst at Beamish Museum we saw that Christmas trees were decorated very differently to ours today! They were decorated with cinnamon sticks, candles, and orange slices! There were no baubles in sight! We also saw wreaths made from berries, holly leaves, cinnamon sticks and orange slices. These were hung on the railings in the streets and on some front doors. The children recognised that we still hang wreaths on our doors however, they tend to be artificial. As part of our workshop we went into a house and had a ‘pretend’ Christmas day. We all made peg dolls (a doll made from pegs and fabric which children would have to play with), cinnamon biscuits (a treat which would traditionally be eaten on Christmas day) and played traditional games. We noticed many differences from the past and the children recognised how fortunate they are today! As we returned to school we made our very own decorations for our classroom (streamers) and made some delicious cinnamon biscuits!
The aliens have landed!!
In class 2 the aliens have landed!! The children came into our class to find an alien crash landing!! There were 23 small creatures which have called our classroom their home. The children decided to call these creatures, ‘quiet critters’. We each used our phonics to give our aliens names, some examples were: bozz, chirl, cheff and fizz! We also wrote our own set of instructions about ‘How to care for quiet critters’. We noticed that they had been collecting materials to fix their spaceship and they sadly left us just before Christmas.

Oriental Museum – Educational Visit
On May 4th, Class 3 visited the Oriental Museum to find out about life and death in Ancient Egypt. The children handled real artefacts from almost 4000 years ago, saw a real mummy and they even ‘mummified’ a member of our class!
Spring Term 2017
Today class 3 role played a trial of ‘the Big Bad Wolf’. We wrote questions for all of the witnesses and debated which side should win the case. The children acted as solicitors, the judge, jury and the characters from famous (or infamous!) stories involving the Wolf. The verdict in the end was that Mr. A. Wolf was GUILTY!
Autumn Term 2016
Science
This half term our science topic is Scientists and Inventors. We have looked at the life and work of Marie Curie on x-rays. We then looked closely at x-ray images of the human skeleton and worked in pairs to create our own 3D models.
History
Our history topic this term is Stone Age to Iron Age. We are investigating how and why tools were important to people in the Stone Age. We have been looking at the use of tools for farming and deciding whether they are big changes, small changes or the same as before.
‘I think using oxen to farm was a big change. It’s new to everyone at that time. They must have been so happy and excited because they didn’t have to kill animals much.‘ Erin
‘It would be a big change because people now (modern times) train animals to pull ploughs too.‘ Leila
‘They just found out that seeds started growing so they can eat in the winter without hunting.’ Elin
Flanders Field
On November 11th, we painted Flanders Fields in remembrance of all the people who had died in wars. We Listened to the poem and then painted the scene using perspective.
